Event: Rebellion; Sign Ups

Residents of the Tower may have noticed, over the last couple of days, that a few of the worker units with chipped collars have made their way into the residential levels of the Tower. They are much more prone to attempting to help the residents avoid death, giving them detailed warnings about jobs, being more gentle about collar checkups, and explaining to new residents that they have to eat the oatmeal first. Just after midnight on April 8, Jason can be heard over the intercom:

"All worker units report to the administrative levels for emergency maintenance."

All worker units are gone from the residential levels of the Tower for three hours. When they return, none of the visible worker units have chipped collars. But, as the week goes on, the worker units begin acting odd, and various residents begin disappearing...

It seems Jason made a bit of a miscalculation (or maybe it was intentional...), and now the worker units are acting strange. Some of them do nothing at all, standing in corners and staring at walls. Some do everything far more rapidly than any human should be able to move, making them look wildly unnatural. Some are hostile to residents of the Tower, ranging from simply ignoring them to actively attempting to kill them. And occasionally the retrieval units show up and drag someone away, down into the infirmary behind a locked, impenetrable door, for no apparent reason.

One character per player may participate in this plot. Those who sign up will vanish from the Tower at some point this week (the time is up to you; you can have them vanish as soon as you sign up or wait until the last day before the plot begins), having been dragged to the infirmary by the retrieval units. They will be subject to brainwashing and surgical modification before being released back into the Tower acting--well, different.

The following options are available for the modification:

Group A: The mystery option. This group is subject to the most intense modification and brainwashing, and this option is likely to be the most traumatic. Only seven characters will be chosen for this group.

Group B: This group will be turned into something similar to retrieval units. This group is subject to intense modification and brainwashing, second only to group A.

Group C: This group will be turned into something similar to an advanced worker unit, such as the ones which work in the processing center of the Tower. This group will be subject to moderate modification and brainwashing.

Group D: This group will be turned into something similar to a basic worker unit, such as the ones which work in the residential areas of the Tower. This group will be subject to mild modification and brainwashing.

If you would like your character to be chosen for one of these groups, please fill out this form and place it in a reply to this comment. Note that you cannot specifically request group A--because this group is limited, we will be randomly selecting characters from those who request the possibility.

You have until 12:01AM April 14 to sign up for this event! The event itself will take place from the 15th to the 19th.

Is the bulk of the event going to be over the weekend? I'm going camping this weekend so the specific group I pick will be determined by this.

If so, would it be all right if I still asked for Group A and backlogged when I got back or would you prefer someone who can be active this weekend be in it?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but how permeant will the changes to my character be? Will they just be for the duration of the event or would my character have to deal with the modifications afterwards?

Glad I didn't post my comment, I was about to ask the exact same thing! I'm curious as well.

I'm a little confused. The brainwashing and modification will take place this week, but given that I'm guessing we probably won't be sorted into our groups until after the cutoff, we won't know how intense the brainwashing/modification is.

Will the effects of them just not be apparent (or at least not fully apparent) until the event actually starts?

For characters that are spiritually connected (aka Master and Servant), will the one who is left behind be able to feel anything or would it just be as though they were gone completely (aka a null pact)?

It would feel as if they were gone completely.

1. What are the physical effects of the modification (will our characters feel anything)?

2. How do the effects "end" (that is, when the 20th rolls around, do the effects just wear off, or do the characters have to go in for re-modification)?

3. Will there be any physical effects that our characters can feel after the experiment is over?

4. Will our characters have memories of what happened while they were brainwashed, or no?

EDIT: Whoops, thought of another one. 5. How exactly should our characters act? So if they're in D, they can still hold basic conversation, but if they're in B, they might just be focused on a particular task or doing nothing at all? Will we be told what they can/can't do?

1. The modification will take place similarly (though not identically) to how previous modifications have happened; they will be conscious but not able to feel pain.

2. They will be re-modified (or un-modified, in this case).

3. No.

4. Yes.

5. Behavioral specifics will be covered in detail in the next OOC event post after sign-ups conclude.

Hiya,

Would a death return them to normal or would they just wake up with the same modifications/brainwashing?

This is probably an idiot question but, would it be possible for other characters to form some sort of investigation dealing with both the changes in drones and the disappearing characters? And if so would they even be able to uncover anything so early on?

Probably a stupid question, but I just want to make sure: the "you cannot speak to anyone" bit of Group C's instructions - does that apply at all times, or only when they're malfunctioning?

Inquiry re: Asako's modifications - when you say "her skull was replaced with a crown", does that mean she doesn't have a face anymore and is pulling a Pyramid Head?

Questions regarding Prussia's modifications:

1. What are the basic worker tasks again? Does this include working in the cafeteria?

2. Prussia's ghost body would now be immaterial, correct? So hitting him there wouldn't kill him. If it is immaterial, does this extend to not being able to pick things up or being able to physically attack others (ie. his hands would pass right through them)?

3. If Prussia can pick things up, will he be able to use his sword to attack people when malfunctioning, or is he limited to just beating people to death?

Is it okay to assume Arturia would have been given a sword by Jason or found one somewhere? The only real power she has is to be able to summon Caliburn and strengthening her blows, so all she really needs is a sword of some kind.

so the modified characters will feel compelled to attack residents for whatever reason, particularly for misbehaviour in the case of group B.

will the modified characters also feel compelled to kill other modified characters in this way? or just the residents that didn't sign up for the event?

Probably a dumb question, but just to clarify: Is Ryoji allowed to access any superhuman skills, including his near-immortality and/or Nyx Avatar state?

Would AU Ryoji be able to pull shadows out of people and thus render them Apathy Syndrome'd during this event? (Obviously subject to the other player's approval)

I know in my app you guys said this would just be something for approved player plots, but since he has access to the full gamut of his abilities while he is a quasi retrieval unit, I was wondering if that was included...

'Nother question - would drones be unable to access their powers on floors that don't allow powers? I'm asking this because Robin is going to be attempting to set up a base of operations based on the assumption that the power nullification is universal.

Can those in groups C and D speak if commanded to by someone in A or B?

Do abilities granted modified characters through modification itself count as supernatural for the sake of power loss floors? For example, Tohko's folding.
