Event: Rumor Has It; Start

As explained here, writing begins to appear on the Tower--rumors that will come true if enough people believe them. Here's how it works:

Any character participating will believe the first rumor they see. Their belief adds to the power of this rumor, and when enough people believe it comes true. Rumors will come true when five people believe them, at which time the rumor will vanish from the wall and be replaced by a new one.

Rumors may be about characters who signed up and agreed to have rumors about their characters posted on the walls. Please respect the wishes of those players and talk to them if you have any questions. You are never obligated to play out something that makes you uncomfortable; please contact a moderator if someone puts a rumor up about your character you are unhappy with.

Rumors may not be about the administrators, as they will not work. The rumor "Jason will put you back together wrong the next time you die" would vanish from the wall and not work. The rumor "you will come back wrong the next time you die", however, would work, as it doesn't imply that Jason would have to do something.

Each character can only change three rumors (sort of)--they will get the overwhelming, undeniable feeling that if they change any more rumors something bad will happen. If they insist on trying a fourth time, they will find their hand writes on its own, forming a rumor even worse than the one they're replacing and carving that rumor across their face. They will believe that rumor for the remainder of the event, even if it comes true or is overwritten.

The Tower may change rumors--this happens rarely, and seems to mostly be based around boring rumors. Changing a rumor to "America eats food" is just a statement of a fact, and so the Tower might change it to "America eats people".

Rumors will be organized in this thread. Moderators will make threads for each current rumor. When a rumor is changed, the thread will be frozen and a new one made with the new rumor. When a rumor has reached the point when it becomes true, it will also be frozen. Moderators will inform players who believe in the rumor when their rumor has been overwritten or become true. To indicate your character believes in a rumor, please reply to that rumor's thread. If you wish to change a rumor, reply to the rumor and put "CHANGING RUMOR: [new rumor]" in the subject line of your comment. If your character is going to attempt to change a fourth rumor, make sure to note this so we can warp your rumor for you. Refer to the example rumor thread if you're confused!

This event will run for one week, ending at 11:59PM EST May 25. At this time, all rumors will again become false and everything will disappear from the walls. Any rumors scarred onto the characters will remain until either the character's natural healing covers them up or they die again. Rumors will not be able to vanish from characters' bodies until after the event is over.

TRUE RUMORS
The library's missing sections have been restored. All missing sections in the library are full--of torn apart, ancient, crumbling books. What doesn't turn to dust in a character's hand will either have apparently had all its pages violently torn out have all those pages covered in black ink that refuses to come off. Some papers, especially in astral projection sections, seem to have been dipped completely in red ink, with DATA EXPUNGED written in black ink over top of that.

There are poisonous plants in the cafeteria food. While not all the food is poisoned, a fair amount of it is, and unless you're very well-versed in plant-lore it's hard to tell the difference. The effects of the poison range from a bad stomachache to a slow death.

Zelda and the Hero of Time are dangerously obsessed with each other. Or that's the rumor, anyway. Really, Zelda doesn't seem so obsessed--it's like this sort of thing doesn't have an effect on her. The Hero of Time, though, is a bit less lucky. Better not do anything Link might interpret as untoward, or even attempt to take up too much of the Princess's time--who knows what might happen?

Some collars provide immunity against poison. It's difficult to tell which collars do and which don't, but you could always test yours out. And if you don't have one of the lucky collars, why not cut someone's head off and take it with you? That would provide immunity to whoever was carrying it around, at least until the retrieval units took it from you.

Some conflicts require card games to resolve. It's hard to tell which ones, but if you're participating in the event, you may have the urge to solve a conflict with someone else via Go Fish, Crazy 8s, or some other game. And then you kill the loser, of course.

Feferi Peixes is the "benevolent" Empress of the Tower. While the admins have wrested higher control from her, she still has free reign over her subjects in the residential areas. As any would tell you, she's quite the benevolent Empress. Her control and power is for the best, and anyone she chooses to kill deserved it. Yes, she is a good and kind Empress worthy of the worship she demands--to not believe this would be a fatal mistake.

People with orange collars may go berserk at any moment. And when they do go berserk, they'll try to attack and tear apart anyone in sight. If you're not participating in this event, though, it's not likely to happen to you. But as for everyone else, well, maybe it would be better to treat everyone who has an orange collar with suspicion and uncertainty, just in case.

The boogeyman is real, and he is inside the Tower. It's not any of the characters, though--it's a creeping, shapeless Thing that stalks you into your room at night, hiding in your shadow or slipping through the door if you leave it open for too long. It will swallow you up if you let it. It's especially fond of children.

Czeslaw Meyer always tells the truth. He's completely incapable of lying--if he tries, he's beset by an unimaginably complete terror, as if something is waiting to chew him up and swallow him.

Reflections in mirrors are separate, living entities. While you're looking at them, they behave as expected, but you may catch movement out of the corner of your eye as you turn away. Someone else watching out of sight might see your reflection move, too--but be careful that they don't see you watching them. If they know you saw them move on their own, stay away from mirrors, or they'll drag you in--and you won't survive that.

Rin Matou's corruption will emerge from her to be slain. Every little while more and more will leak out of her and run about like a mindless monster waiting to be killed. Unfortunately, the more of this leaves her, the closer she comes to death. When it's all gone, she'll die too. Then the corruption will start leaking out of her again.

Admit it. You hate all your friends. Eventually, you'll kill one another. Maybe you should get started first.

Dr. Richtofen crawls under beds at night. He'll sneak into any dorm he can and just lay under the bed as long as he can, especially while people are sleeping on the bed at the time.

Captain Cinnamon Claws lives. The stuffed bear stalks the halls of the dormitory levels. You'll feel a chill if he draws near--and feel as if you have to hide. If he catches you, he'll tear you apart, but you'll be fine as long as he doesn't see you.

A new flying whale is attacking the Tower. It's proceeded by a great rumbling and loud, drawn-out whale cry, but a whale plows into the Tower. The barrier repels it, though, and it falls harmlessly down into the fog. There is no damage to the Tower.

This happens every hour.
