Upcoming Plot: - 3/11/2013 (Opt-In/Sign-Up)

A bit of background:Sometime later today or tomorrow, a log between Hagire and Shiro (as Wretched Egg) will go up involving the two of them fighting, mostly for Wretched Egg's own entertainment. Neither of them have gotten to fight a Deadman since arriving here, and since Wretched Egg and Hagire fight all the time just for the fun of it, it's long overdue.
There's just one problem: There is no Mother Goose System in the Tower. In Deadman Wonderland, the Mother Goose System was the only thing restraining Wretched Egg's near-unlimited amount of power using ultrasonic frequencies that only she can hear, which played a lullaby on a loop. This lullaby suppressed Wretched Egg's personality as well, causing the less-dominant personality, Shiro, to become more dominant; but even in the instances when Wretched Egg was able to take control, usually either due to a power outage that shut down part of the Mother Goose System, or Shiro being under a lot of stress and/or physical pain, Wretched Egg still wasn't at her full power. Here, she is. To give you an idea of how much that is, look at this. That's the city of Tokyo being sunk under the sea during the Great Tokyo Earthquake, which she was directly responsible for. Now, obviously, this much damage isn't going to be done to the Tower. Worst case scenario, a floor gets trashed for a day or so.
Starting March 11, 2013, an approved player event will begin that will last approximately two weeks, though it could last a bit longer depending on how many sign-ups we get. As a result of Wretched Egg's unrestrained explosion of power, there will be an outbreak of the Nameless Worm, which Wretched Egg is the source of in the series. The Nameless Worm is a red crystal (which doesn't necessarily have to be that size) that infects the body, turning people into Deadmen, and granting them their own Branch of Sin. Wretched Egg has only ever intentionally infected one person that we know of, that being Ganta Igarashi; everyone else received their Nameless Worm and Branch of Sin during the aforementioned earthquake.
After the fight mentioned above, Wretched Egg will be wanting to test out the 'second generation' Deadmen's powers, most likely in the form of a fight. Character death will be completely optional. Likewise, once Hagire recovers from his very, very nasty fight against her, he'll be trying to copy your character's new powers, which is done by him licking your character's blood (yes, I know, squicky).
Characters that sign up will become infected, most likely without them being aware of it, by the Nameless Worm, and develop their own Branch of Sin. Before we get to that, I should explain what this means.
What is a Branch of Sin?
- A Branch of Sin is essentially a weapon made from someone's own blood. This can be in the form of swords, whips, daggers, bombs, shields, wings, a gun, or something even more creative.
- Despite the ominous name, Branches of Sin technically aren't supernatural in nature; actually, based on information from the manga, they're more science fiction in nature. The Nameless Worm releases enzymes and nanomachines into the blood that allow the user to control it as if it were an extension of their own body. If your character has a natural aversion to nanomachines or anything similar being inside their bodies, they probably shouldn't take part in this event.
Can my character bleed out while using it?
- Ganta Igarashi sympathizes. Yes, if your character isn't careful, they can indeed exsanguinate from using a Branch of Sin. Many characters in the series, including Minatsuki Takami, Crow, Hagire Rinichiro/Toto Sakigami, and Karako Koshio, have a Branch of Sin that essentially lets them 'recycle' their blood, and pull it back into their body when they aren't using a Branch of Sin, thus eliminating the possibility of them bleeding to death. In Ganta's case, whose Branch of Sin turns his blood into bullets like those fired from a gun, that isn't possible.
Pull my blood back in!? But I can get sick from that!
- I thought the same thing reading this manga. That's never mentioned once in the series. But considering Branches of Sin can cut through steel, strangle people, blow things up, etc., I think it's safe to assume they can handle bloodborne pathogens. Let's just handwave this possibility since the series itself did.
Can I keep this power?
- All new Branches of Sin that appear in the Tower as a result of this event will ultimately disappear, either by the character dying (optional), or by the Administrators making them disappear, whichever comes first. This includes any power copied by Mockingbird. Can you get it back, however? This kind of event won't be happening again due to what will happen after, but it's still possible Wretched Egg would be able to spread the Nameless Worm intentionally rather than unintentionally. Good luck convincing her, though... let's just say unless your name is Ganta Igarashi or Hagire Rinichiro, she's not the social type.
Which Branches of Sin am I not allowed to have?
- Any Branch of Sin belonging to a canon character from Deadman Wonderland that is in the game by the time the event starts will be off-limits. For reference, Wretched Egg can create 'storms' out of her blood, fly, create massive tentacles that can rip apart entire buildings, and has a healing factor. Hagire (in Mockingbird's body) can copy other people's Branches of Sin, and towards the end of the series, he's copied so many that his blood is basically an all-purpose shapeshifting weapon capable of doing just about anything he wants, though he's still not as powerful as Wretched Egg and probably never will be. And yes, of course, creativity is strongly encouraged. c:
- EDITED 3/7/2013: As of this edit, Minatsuki Takami is also in the game. She creates fast-moving 'whips' of blood extending from her ears (but they look like they're a part of her hair), which are strong enough to restrain someone, throw someone, or lash someone faster than some people can even see.
Aren't you concerned this might make our characters too powerful?
- Yes. We addressed that in the mod post. Any character who has a Branch of Sin from this event will find the powers their characters already have severely weakened for the duration of the event. HOWEVER, this also means a character who doesn't have powers of their own already will find this beneficial.
I hope that answers your questions! If you have any more, post here, and me and/or Lenneth (Shiro/Wretched Egg mun) will try to answer to the best of our abilities! If you want to plot on a more private basis, feel free to grab our contact information here.
