Event: The Tower is Forever

Beginning on January 13, residents of the Tower may wake up thinking the date is wildly different than it really is--sort of. Oh, it's definitely January 13, but is it five years later? Ten years? A hundred? A thousand? Tower residents affected by this event will believe they have been in the Tower much longer than they really have been. How much longer? It depends. Characters will believe they have been in the Tower long enough for that period of time to have significant weight to it. For a regular human child maybe this is just a handful of years, but for some of the longer-lived members of the population they may believe they've been trapped in the Tower for hundreds or thousands of years. Everyone will realize those around them are acting strangely, but those affected by the event will believe they're the ones who have the right date.

Characters who age may age as appropriate for their species. Personalities, of course, may have been altered by the length of time they believe they've been in the Tower as well. Are they still fighting? Have they given up hope entirely? Has living in such a warped place warped their morals to match?

This event will last from January 13th to January 19th. Please do not make any IC posts relating to the event until that time.

So the return post I've been drafting...can't go up? Are backdated posts allowed, for things that happened between now and then?

It says a length of time that's significant for the character...but what does that mean for someone who grew up a mostly normal human but then became immortal a few years before coming to the Tower? Technically, thousands of years could pass and he wouldn't age a day, but he is still wired to think of a hundred years as a very long time. Well, maybe less so because of the average human lifespan in his universe and the fact that he knows a guy who's been immortal for a hundred years...

Will affected characters bodies be aged, or is it all purely psychological?

Since the characters' minds and bodies will have aged, could they also be changed in others ways? For example, maybe they have a permanent disability or some crazy enhancement from an experiment they participated in?

Is any change in clothing/other items possible - especially for those who might have grown in that time, whether it's something they think was made for them by someone else in the workshop/etc, replacing other things in their trunk, or assumedly won from 'past events'?

Like in Waver's case, canonically he goes from like 5'1" to 5'9" so his clothes totally wouldn't fit anymore, and he takes up smoking, which is something he'd definitely be driven to do if given the opportunity in the tower too. So mostly wondering about these things, but as a whole for anyone else's purposes, of course!

I hope the wording of this makes sense, it doesn't really even affect me directly but I'm curious to know: if an immortal character believes that it's been hundreds or thousands of years, how would they handle mortal characters who should be dead from their standpoint? Would they be able to see them for the event and be really confused as to why they're suddenly alive and young again or would they perceive them as ghosts/voices/something along that line? On that note, is it even possible to die of old age in the tower?

[personal profile] lethechained 2013-01-08 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
Not sure if this will be addressed later or if it's spoilery but will the characters remember what happened to them during this event when the event is over and they (theoretically) return to their normal age?

If you have a character that would naturally die in a few years, I'm assuming they'd be brought back but would they still have the same complications?

How would powers be affected, for characters whose powers naturally evolve during the course of their life? Will they stay the same or can their powers change?

Do we need to sign up in advance, or can we just decide when the event begins whether or not we'd like to participate?

This sounds like something it might be interesting to throw A'kin at since he operates on such a long timescale, but I'm going to need to balance new posts against catching up right now.

[personal profile] justiceinheaven 2013-01-09 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
You mentioned that powers could evolve, but what about the potential for gaining power? Like in Nanako's case, in a ten year period, if at some point there was a possibility for her to have to face and accept herself and obtain a Persona, would that be something that she would have access to during the event?

Wrong journal but whatever.

I was thinking for Naoya it would be quite a long time. However, his physical body would have aged - it's only his soul that reincarnates. I'm not sure how I should handle this, as I don't think say, ten or so years would be enough of a bump for him to start getting to the degree of crazy I think it'd be fun to play.

Okay! Potentially stupid question - a question answered in the FAQ says the network posts have timestamps; do they appear differently for each character depending on how long everyone thinks they've been there? After the event is over, do the timestamps show the day they were actually posted as if time had been progressing normally or is it going to be a jumble of weird dates and times depending on who made the original posts?

Since I've got a new character I just brought in, would it be possible to age her up far enough to have her feel like a longtime resident, without being long enough to significantly age her? Say 6months-1 year or so?

Re: QUESTIONS

I have been planning for Ryuho to recover his memories and possible advance to his third stage alter eventually. So he would likely have both is he is advanced ten years or so. I'm assuming that he would retain his memories after the event ends.

The main problem is, that his third form alter is slowly killing him. Given this, he may have started dying frequently. Would the tower continue to revive him, or place some kind of limiter to prevent him from accessing the third form?

Quick question:

Does this event effect everyone or is it possible for some characters not to be affected? And if not, for those who aren't in the event what are they seeing? Will it seem like people have aged overnight? Or to them do they still look like they did?

Question!

Recent canon has implied that Kanaya's "rainbowdrinker" thing is actually a jadeblood, evolutionary thing. So would it be alright for Eridan to be one in the event? Maybe out trace from an experiment, if not "naturally".

Alright, so I've obviously got something wrong here. Is the characters' vision/perception being altered in any way? Say Characters A and B are both affected by the event, and A is looking at B. Will A see B as their normal age, the age they should be in A's time, or the age they should be in B's time?

Write-ups!

[personal profile] bloodyashes 2013-01-09 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
So has anyone else done a write-up of their character's towerpoint for this event?

'Cause I did and I think it might be useful just for everyone to keep track of what they're doing/CR they're saying happened/what have you.

So um, if you have a write-up, reply to this comment?

Hey I just met you, and this is crazy, but I've known you for years, so we're friends maybe?
