End of Year Discussion Post

It's the beginning of the end of the world of 2012, Animus! The game has been open for about eighteen months, and since it's the end of the year, let's have a discussion post. Here's how this is going to work: this post will be divided up into subcategories, and you guys can discuss among yourselves and with us whatever you want about the topic in question. Tell us things you want to see, tell us things you want us to stop doing, tell us things we're doing right if you want!

Please remain civil in your discussions; we will be watching the post and will step in if things get too heated anywhere. Respect each others' opinions even if you don't agree with them. Anonymous commenting is currently enabled, but will be disabled if abused.

Mermaids. The old-fashioned, eat-your-face-off kind.

A place for people to actually fight Mirelurks other than the aquarium! Poisonous sea urchins? Maybe the water itself can become malevolent at night!

Or mind-altering, since the topic of more psychological horror came up downthread.

Perhaps the water could slowly wash away memories or inflict some other subtle mental/emotional effect? Characters might not even notice they were being affected at first...

Oooh, I kind of like this idea. There would have to be a way for the characters to get their memory back, of course, but given the horrors they go through in the Tower, who wouldn't be at least a little tempted to forget what they've seen and experienced...

Not a huge fan of memory loss, but wouldn't hallucinogenic effects just suck in the tower at night?

My thought was that the effects (whatever they are) would be sort of along the lines of Floor 23's vanishing, where characters gradually recover so long as they don't keep re-exposing themselves.

I think you're thinking of sirens.

BUT YES.

Nah, old sailors' tales had mermaids that were pretty brutal, too. They would often use their beauty to lure them to wreck on rocks and survivors were eaten. 8D;

Interesting. When I was studying mermaid myths I never came across plain old mermaids being vicious, just were the greek sirens or another variant.

Ahahaha, you'd have to look at Europe and look int specifically tales from sailors. It was rumored mermaids lured the ships to their doom on rocks. |D It's quite interesting.
