Event: Rumor Has It; Sign Ups & Preparation
Throughout the week, something odd begins happening in the Tower: scratches appearing on the walls where there weren't any. At first it just appears to be random scuff or claw marks, but unlike most things attached to the Tower, they don't disappear. And, in fact, anyone who tries with the right sort of material will find they are able to scratch up that section of the Tower as well. For this week, at least, it's just random scratches, growing larger and larger, but that won't be the case forever...
Beginning on May 19, 12:01AM EST, mysterious writing will begin appearing carved into the walls of the Tower. Their messages are simple statements about something in the Tower--maybe something about the food, something about the monsters, or something about one of the residents. Funny thing, though: most people who read one of these messages will believe it, even if it's something ridiculous. After all, the water isn't blood and the monsters don't sleep under your bed at night (you've checked). But as more and more people begin to believe in the rumor, that rumor will become more and more real. And then--maybe you should look under your bed one more time.
And what if the rumor is about you? Sure, you aren't a serial killer right now, but belief is a powerful thing... Maybe you should try to counter that rumor with one of your own before things get messy.
Okay, here's how it's going to work. During this event, rumors will appear on the walls. Any character participating in the event, when reading a rumor, will believe it. They can only imprint on one rumor at a time, but the more people believe in a rumor the more powerful the rumor becomes until it becomes true, upon which time everyone is released from that rumor and can imprint on another. It's best, then, to counteract rumors with some of your own.
To counteract a rumor, just cross out the old one and carve a new one into the wall the old one was on. The catch? You're carving that rumor into yourself, too--it will be painfully carved somewhere noticeable on your body as you write it, and will have the same memetic properties as the one on the wall. You will become the first believer in your new rumor, and unable to counter anything else until your rumor comes true. You can have a maximum of three rumors carved onto your body. Try a fourth time and who knows what terrible things might happen.
If a rumor you believe in is countered? Then you believe in whatever the new rumor is immediately. Hopefully no one changes it into anything too awful. And you'd better hope the Tower itself doesn't warp your rumor--because sometimes that happens, especially if the rumor isn't interesting enough for it. Rumors against the administrators will vanish, unable to succeed.
If you would like to sign up, please fill out the following form. You do not have to have rumors alter your character in order to participate, although that is an option. If you do want people to have the possibility to make up rumors about your characters, make sure you mention that in the appropriate place on the form. Just remember: if a rumor about your character comes true, you have to play it out. Make sure you're clear about what you will and will not play out. Sign ups will end May 19, 12:01AM EST.
To sign up, post your form in a reply here. If you would like to submit potential Tower starter rumors, please go here.

I have so many questions.....
What happens if a character attempts to keep others from seeing a rumor by means other than countering it? For example, if they try to cover it up or warn people away from the affected area?
Can characters create rumors about rumors?
Is it possible to propagate a rumor by means other than direct viewing of the wall it's written on? What happens if someone tries to spread a rumor orally or if they arrange for it to be shown over the network?

2. That would work for a time but as soon as no one was in the area the covering would vanish.
3. As long as it doesn't create a paradox--the rumor "rumors on the wall don't come true" wouldn't work because once it came true it would not come true, for example.
4. If they displayed a video of the wall or of the carved in version on their body over the network it would spread the rumor to anyone participating in the event who watched the video. Speaking it won't have an effect.

2-4. Got it, thanks. This is going to be fun.

One more question:
If characters can only be imprinted on a single rumor at a time, then what happens when they come across a new rumor? Does the old one get displaced, or does it effectively shield them from the second? Or is the imprinting only for character-created rumors and participants perpetuate as many rumors as they encounter?
